PRESS RELEASE: ETHIOPIA’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY IS VIOLATED

The International Ethiopian Women’s Organization (IEWO) strongly opposes and condemns EPRDF's act of conceding Ethiopia’s territory to the neighboring Sudan.  We are gravely concerned by the recent news not only that 1600 km land of Ethiopia is given away to Sudan but also the fact that the Sudanese army has occupied the north west Ethiopian territory and is engaged in killing, kidnapping, imprisoning and dismantling the community from their home and land. Though the two countries have not made official statement the evidence in the ground is clear and the Ethiopian people who live in the region have voiced their concern and express the consequences and danger of such reckless and illegal action by the authorities of both countries. The people in the border regions are now sandwiched by Sudanese army who is looting and displacing people on one side and by the EPRDF/Woyane forces on the other side and exposing them for severe danger and leaving the people with no defense and protection.  We are cognizant of the dictatorial and anti Ethiopia nature and behaviors of Meles Zenawi as it was demonstrated in the past 17 years, however this recent action calls for an alarm, this may be a major precursor to accomplishing the final mission of dismembering and compromising the integrity and the sovereignty of the Ethiopian nation.

We, Ethiopian women, believe that today Ethiopia is not represented by a government that has the nation’s and the peoples’ interest at heart. Therefore until Ethiopians that put the interest and well being of the nation and the people first govern Ethiopia, any international agreement and treaties or resolving border disputes between neighboring countries during the rule of the EPRDF/Woyane, shall not have any legal binding.  Therefore we call upon the Sudanese government to withdraw its occupation immediately and respect Ethiopia’s national integrity for the secret treaty with EPRDF/Woyane is not recognized by the people as thier government for thier actions have proved to be anti Ethiopia and her people. We also call upon the international community to stand by and support the Ethiopian people and condemn such acts and atrocities committed on Ethiopians by both the EPRDF/Woyane and  the Sudanese government.

Ethiopia Shall prevail!!!!

Free All Politcal Prisoners in Ethiopia

SOCEPP Condemns Illegal Detention of Popular Singer

The EPRDF regime has illegally detained popular singer Tedros Kassahun (a.k.a Teddy Afro) and has started railroading him. Officially Tedros is accused of an alleged fatal hit and run (he was detained for this in November 2006 and released on bail) but it is an ascertained fact that the regime is engaged in a political vendetta to punish the singer for one of his famous songs/Yasteseryal/ that criticizes the ruling group.  Read More of the Press Release….. // listen to his music reviews on NPR

Let's Celebrate Together!!!

To All Ethiopians and friends of IEWO

International Ethiopian Women's Organization (IEWO) is celebrating March 8 international Women’s Day by commemorating and honoring brave and courageous Ethiopia women and their heroic history. it is in deed, Ethiopian Women’s Day; for it is in this month in 1896 under the leadership of Empress Tayitu, that Ethiopia was able to defeat the invading Italian army.  In this occasion, we will also pay tribute to all women especially African women who stood for peace and justice and empower themselves and others all over the world, in doing so we observe International Women’s Day. We believe, it is a day of solidarity, a day of celebration of sisterhood, a day of honoring womanhood, a day which uplifts our spirit and sets the motion for future empowerment and for a better world.

In this day of celebrating women in general and Ethiopian women in particular, there will be an open discussion forum, which addresses the current issues and situations that are affecting the people of Africa at large and women and children in particular directly and indirectly by the violence and oppression perpetuated by the male dominating political and economic systems. In addition, we will addres human rights issues, and the lack of justice and peace in Africa and the factors that hinder the betterment of society, economic development and empowerment of women  and other social issues from women's perspective. We will reexamine the role African women should play in the affairs of their nations and people especially in bringing peace to the Afican continent at large.  We will end the celebration with Ethiopian food, music and entertainment which enhance  the spirit of empowerment and genuine friendship among African women. It is with this spirit, IEWO invites all to join us in this especial day and show your solidarity with women of the world.
